This refectory table is a stunning heirloom piece & would make a unique addition to any dining area. This is 2 of 2, having made 1 for myself I offer the 2nd for sale.

It uses the base of an antique Henry Bamford Corn Grinding Mill, these cast iron machines were produced in Uttoxeter from the 1880s through to the 1930s for farmers to produce cattle feed. It was stripped, cleaned & polished retaining the original paint & patina which shows through. Identifiers are highlighted with gilded polish. Kiln dried sawn oak planks were sourced from a saw mill in North Yorkshire & carefully worked with hand tools to retain as much of the character as possible barnwood style, some saw marks remain, together with the tannins & some evidence of the processing.

Please note that you can see & feel the undulations in the wood, this is completely intentional as attempts to add a new look top to these old bases is never successful. The oak planks are approximately 1 wide & 1 thick, edge glued & domino jointed for strength before being sealed with 2 coats of clear matt exterior water based varnish, the wood looks.

Pale now as it is fresh out of the workshop but will mellow to honey tones over the next couple of months. The table top is let into a bespoke welded steel chassis, primed & finished in matt black to match the old. The top & chassis are attached with a side detail of passivated coach bolts.

The chassis is in turn affixed to the original mounting points on the base via 4 nuts, removable for transport. An oak collar (dowelled & glued), sits on the neck of the machine base to marry the two together. The 308 Design logo is engraved in brass with a black relief & affixed to the frame. The base is approximately 680mm deep by 1000mm wide. Please note that the combination of cast iron & oak makes this a heavy & very stable table, the top removes via 4 under mounted nuts for easier transportation.
